Hocus Pocus Halloween Party + Chocolate Pumpkin Puppy Chow

Greetings witches and wizards and happy Halloween!

If you know me personally you know that I am not a scary movie fan. In fact, I’m a bit of a fraidy cat when it comes to anything Halloween or horror (even TV commercials can give me nightmares).  So when I volunteered to host a Halloween girls’ night for my FRG (family readiness group), I knew I had to find the perfect non-scary Halloween movie to watch. Enter Hocus Pocus!

Check out these simple party ideas for a Hocus Pocus Halloween party!

Hosting a Hocus Pocus Halloween Party

Since this was my first Army-related hosting event, I was a little nervous but, after coming up with the Hocus Pocus Halloween party theme, the rest of the party ideas just started to flow.

Since I only had a few days to plan, I kept the decor simple with a black party tablecloth, a stretchy spider web table runner, a few black cauldrons, and a witch’s hat.

And since the movie was Hocus Pocus aka the most quotable Halloween movie ever, I created a fun Sandersen sister poster as a fun backdrop to the party table. Click here to get all the printables: Hocus Pocus Amuck Poster.

The Party Food

One of the other wives was sweet enough to take care of the main appetizer so I was in charge of the snacks.

I decided on pumpkin Rice Krispies treats with Tootsie roll stems and chocolate pumpkin puppy chow.

Both were a big hit but the puppy chow was my favorite. It was super easy to make and was perfect for the goody bags the ladies could take with them after the movie.

I chose to combine two different flavors–chocolate peanut butter and white chocolate pumpkin spice. It was delicious and was the perfect combo of yumminess.

To top it off, I added a box of Reese’s Pieces and combined the whole thing into one of my witch’s cauldrons.

  6. In another large bowl, combine both prepared Chex mixes plus Reese's Pieces and stir to combine. Enjoy!!

The best part? My Hocus Pocus Halloween party was a smashing success! Four ladies from my FRG attended and we had so much fun chatting and snacking after the movie. And, much to my surprise, I enjoyed planning everything and hosting the other ladies. In fact, I would probably give this whole party thing another go when I get the chance. Who knew!

How about you? Have you ever hosted a holiday or FRG party? I want to know everything!

  • Woof. I have a real love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with the FRG right now, but this party looks like perfection!!! Great job, lady!

    • Thanks friend! That’s a bummer for you though—I’ve always had ‘interesting’ (bad) experiences with the FRG before so I’m glad this one is better. :-/

  • Ok this is the cutest party ever! I will definitely be printing off and using your “amuck” poster next year!

Um, next time we’re at the same post, we have to get together. I love puppy chow!
