Happy Wednesday, lovelies! I hope you’re enjoying your first week of 2018. I’ve been a busy bee so far this week trying to get into a good routine (one of my goals for the new year) but still feeling a little bit of the winter blues. Is it cold where you live? Because it’s been in the negatives here in lovely New York (YIKES). This weather has reminded me how grateful I am that this is our last year here at Drum!
Admittedly, my attitude towards winter was much better at the start of December when we got our first real snow of the year. Last year at this time, Baby E was too little to really enjoy a North Eastern winter. This year, I snagged all of her winter essentials during Carter’s Black Friday sale and waited excitedly for a warmer day to take her out in the backyard.
And boy, did it not disappoint! At first, E was a little apprehensive about the wet fluffy stuff all around her. But after a bit, she was loving it.
And of course, I took tons of photos and videos to send to her daddy. We even made a few snow angels! Although E’s snowsuit and boots hampered pretty much all of her movement–she made such a cute little snow baby though!
Also this month, I ordered my first meal subscription kit. So far, I’ve tried out Hello Fresh, Sunbasket, Blue Apron, Home Chef, and Marley & Spoon (all of which I will be reviewing on the blog). I tend to be the person who’s not a fan of cooking for herself but I’ve found myself really enjoying putting together these meals. Plus they’re delicious!
Obviously this Christmas season is very different from ones of years past, but I decided not to let that stop me from putting up a few Christmas decorations. I decorated the tree with red, white, and blue lights and just our yearly ornaments. It’s simple but still beautiful (and very patriotic). The ladies in the FRG and I sent lots of Christmas decorations in our care packages so Zach and the rest decorated their rooms with Christmas spirit. And, they had their own Christmas tree to decorate outside their barracks.
I spent most of my time working on either my December Daily memory keeping project or the blog’s new design. Oh, and binge watching all the Netflix. Because I might as well take advantage of being the only one in charge of the remote! So far my favorites have been all two seasons of the Crown and the first four seasons of Downton Abbey (yes, I’m very late to the Downton party).
One of our family traditions is opening presents on Christmas Eve so Zach and I worked out a time to do just that using Facetime. I had seen a photo on Pinterest or Facebook of a family photo with the deployed service member on Facetime and I decided to recreate it.
Aaaaand this was the result. It’s hard to wrangle both a one-year old and a camera timer, y’all. I’m pretty sure Baby E loved playing with the wrapping paper more than her gifts!
And the dog. She loves giving him hugs and letting him give her kisses.
Christmas day was mostly spent facetiming family and watching the old classics. No Christmas is complete for me without ol’ Bing and the General.
So there you have it–our December in 600 words.
IT’S YOUR TURN:
How was your December? I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to 2018!
