Happy Monday all! I know that the first Monday after the clocks change can be rough (it is for me at least) so how about a little start of the week pick-me-up. As most of you know, I’m an avid Netflix binge-watcher so today I’ll be sharing a few of my confessions about my favorite television shows currently on Netflix. Feel free to chime in with your confessions in the comments!
So while I was writing this I realized I have way too many opinions about my Netflix favorites. So I’m paring these confessions down to only five tv shows and I’ll save my other thoughts for another post.
Favorite Character: Lorelai, Emily, Paris, Sookie, Michel (honestly can you pick just one?)
Favorite Episode: Season 5 Episode 13: Wedding Bell Blues
+ I confess the more that I watch the show the more I relate to and love Lorelai and Emily. Does that officially make me an adult?
+ I also confess that I’m not Rory’s biggest fan. Seasons 1 – 3 Rory was perfect but after that, things get dicey for me. From there, she just morphs into this mediocre character who never fully develops. There are moments of the old Rory in later seasons but they’re few and far between.
+ On the topic of Rory, I am firmly on Team Logan (sorry, not sorry Team Dean/Jess-shippers).
+ I confess that I love Christopher and Lorelai together. Don’t get me wrong, Luke is a great character but there’s just something about Chris and Lor.
+ I take great pride in knowing that I loved Melissa McCarthy before she was a household name. She is a comedic gem.
+ I confess I was more than a little miffed at Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. There were parts I absolutely loved but there were also moments that had me scratching my head. Namely, the musical that robbed me of 10 minutes of my life and…duh..duh…duh…Rory.
+ I confess that even though there are parts of Gilmore Girls that haven’t aged well, I will always have a special place in my heart for Stars Hollow.
How I Met Your Mother
Favorite Character: Barney Stinson, Lily Aldrin-Eriksen
Favorite Episode: Season 1 Episode 1: The Pilot
+ Unpopular (or maybe not so unpopular) opinion? I confess that I’m not HIMYM’s biggest fan. Out of all these shows, HIMYM is a show I can’t actually binge-watch. I have watched all of the episodes but it took me many moons to finish the series. Plus, this is the only show on this list I’ve only been able to watch once.
+ I confess that Ted might be my least favorite protagonist character in TV history. He’s superficial, pretentious, insecure, and a really, really bad boyfriend. He’s the guy who touts himself as being “The Nice Guy” but he just really….isn’t.
+ Marshall and Lily were the cutest. Robin and Barney were meant to be. And Ted didn’t deserve “The Mother” (or Robin, for that matter).
+ Hear me out, but Barney is the most solid character on the show for me. His one-liners are genuinely hilarious and he’s played by the legen-wait for it-dary Neil Patrick Harris. Yes, his womanizing got out of hand 99.9% of the time but in a sea of simpering characters, Barney stands out as both funny and sensitive (when he wanted to be).
+ I confess that the show is problematic for me in a lot of ways. There are several plotlines for both Barney and Ted that push the stereotype that women play hard to get and “no” can become a “yes” if you push hard enough. Plus the overall treatment of women other than Robin and Lily is unflattering at best.
Favorite Character: Chandler Bing
Favorite Episode: Season 5 Episode 8: The One with all the Thanksgivings
+ I confess that I find Ross annoying 50% of the time. He has his good moments but he also has whiny, controlling, selfish, egotistical, jealous moments. Maybe this was supposed to make him more accessible but, for me, it only succeeds in making him over-the-top.
+ It’s probably not surprising that I don’t think Ross and Rachel are the best couple on the show. That award goes to Chandler and Monica. They are the original #RelationshipGoals.
+ On that topic, Chandler is my favorite Friend. He’s funny, sweet, and has some of the most emotional storylines in the show. Second place goes to Rachel for having such good character development through the course of the show.
+ I confess that I may or may not have started watching the show because Tom Selleck guest starred. I watched Magnum PI religiously as a kid and I had the biggest crush on him. (Also he could be the reason why I watch the show Blue Bloods.)
+ Don’t hate me but I think Joey’s cuteness is overrated.
+ My favorite guest stars on the show were Robin Williams and Hugh Laurie.
+ My opinion? They were probably on a break but that was no excuse for Ross to sleep with Chloe. Butt wad move, dude.
Parks & Recreation
Favorite Character: Leslie Knope
Favorite Episode: Season 5 Episode 5: Halloween Surprise
+ Again, this is a show that I’ve watched quite a few times. It’s the perfect blend of lighthearted comedy, political commentary, and emotional storylines and is probably my favorite TV show ever.
+ I confess that April is my spirit animal. I love Leslie but April is pretty much me if I was younger, funnier and married to Chris Pratt.
+ Ben and Leslie are my favorite TV couple ever.
+ I confess that season 7 is my least favorite of the series and season 4 is my favorite.
+ I love that there are so many truths interwoven with the humor in this show. It’s a slightly exaggerated view of small-town American life but it’s also a very real portrayal of everyday people.
There you have it–a few of my binge-watching confessions. Have you watched any of these? What are your Netflix confessions?
